How to Wear Kimono - ZZKWS002

The world over, kimono is seen as a signifier of a uniquely Japanese reverence for grace and elegance. Kimono are undergoing a resurgence as a vibrant form of self expression as future trend forecasters are indicating the kimono as a hot fashion piece in 2020.

In this workshop, participants will be able to dress in the traditional casual style of kimono whilst learning the basics of ohashori (tucking up) and bunko-musubi (bow tying). Select a kimono from our abundant collection in store and be guided in selecting a complementary obi to dress in during the workshop (both of which you can purchase on the day with a generous discount). You are also welcome to bring your own kimono to be dressed in.

You will be guided by Melbourne based, Japanese born kimono stylist Sala Okabe who has been awarded the Japan National Kimono Coordination Grand Prize and Kazari + Ziguzagu’s resident Japanese textiles expert and buyer, Haru.

Read more about the kimono in this recent news item on our website and for inspiration, peruse the gorgeous kimono and obi online at Kazari + Ziguzagu.

Please wear comfortable clothing such as leggings and a t-shirt over which you can dress and if you wish for photos to be taken of your final ensemble, remember to bring a camera.

There will be a 20% discount for participants off all kimono and obi products on the day (excluding already discounted items).
