Japanese Hagi pottery SENCHA set - C18JJ74

Made in the Hagi Fukuwa Kiln of the Yamaguchi prefecture of Chūgoku region in Western Japan, this subdued and earthy Sencha tea set epitomises the concepts behind wabi-suki tea pottery.

Using a combination of wheel throwing and hand pressing by the master potter, Tahara Tobe the 12th (Tahara Genjiro – 1925-1991), the milky ash glaze includes tints of lavender and mushroom. The green sencha tea used in these organic vessels introduces an aesthetic dialogue that enhances the tea service experience.

With each of the 6 cups measuring 4.5cm high x 5cm in diameter; the tea pot 7cm high x 10cm wide; the serving jug 5cm high x 10.5cm wide; the sweets dish 1.5cm high x 9.5cm wide x 6.5cm deep, this is a compact set that is neatly stored in a custom-made wooden box. The artists stamp is on the base of the tea pot and the pourer, and the lid of the box. Please note that this set does not come with the cardboard box that is shown in the pictures (due to damage during handling).
