Kimono: Its Place in the Modern World

Fiona Parry-Jones is the owner of Von Haus design studio, known for her expert use of colour and design. She is a talented designer, creating stand out interiors for a range of commercial and residential projects, including the recent TV series Love It or List It with former Vogue Living editor-in-chief and The Block judge Neale Whitaker.

Fiona popped in and chose a selection of Kazari items she’d love to have in her home. “My home is a cottage mix of colour and texture, Kazari is perfect store to pick the things that I love”

For her loungeroom Fiona selected a wabi sabi Japanese seto pottery vase by Yamaguchi Kozaemon 13th. He is the 13th generation of potter’s in the family and this is a one-of-a-kind piece in an organic form with a bright turquoise blue glaze. “This is definitely my favourite piece, the colour and texture are just stunning, it will work beautifully with modern pieces, it’s also a bit edgy and different and a bit of a talking point”. Also for the lounge, an African wax print cotton cushion with duck feather insert. The design is a repeated pattern of a giant needle and thread in bold blue and yellow. Fiona says “I love wild cushions, I don’t like anything too bland, love the pop of colour and I think it pairs quite nicely with the vase”. Finally a vintage Japanese Raku pottery tea bowl “perfect for the mantlepiece, I’d love to have seven of these”

On the selection of Chinese contemporary pottery parrots, “I’ve just fallen in love with these birds, I think they would look great in my sunroom with some greenery and flowers, they’re a bit quirky which is the eclectic side of the house”

For the dining room, Fiona selected a contemporary pottery vase in the shape of a pea pod by Fujihira Yasushi “I think it’s really beautiful as a table centrepiece, something that I think I would fall in love with over and over again as I live with it”.

For the bathroom, “you can’t go wrong with a rustic stool”, Fiona selected a 19th century antique Chinese elm stool.
