At Kazari + Ziguzagu we have a range of contemporary and antique Japanese hibachi. Hibachi, has the meaning ‘fire bowl’ in Japanese, and these braziers are made in pottery, lacquer and bronze and date back to ancient Japan. They were traditionally used for heating the corners of the rooms during Winter by slow burning charcoal, the embers smouldering on top of the accumulated ash inside. Other hibachis, such as wooden ‘table’ versions were used to sit around, to drink tea or smoke tobacco pipes rather like a hearth. Today they are popular for use as pot plant containers or vases .
