Imao Keinen (1845-1924) was born in
Kyoto and studied ukiyo-e painting with Umegata Tokyo and other
Japanese styles with Suzuki Hyakunen. From 1880 he taught as a
professor at the Kyoto Prefecture School of Painting. He
became a member of the Art Committe of the Imperial Household in
1904 and in 1919 became a member of The Imperial Art Academy.
Keinen was an important Japanese style painter specialising in
Kacho-ga (Flower and bird prints) with very realistic
detail.
