Unusual Japanese paulownia wood chest displaying fine metalwork and colour with iron locks in the shape of money pouches, particularly unusual because of the 2 cash drawers.

The square metal handles indicate a late Edo period example c 1840

An exceptional piece of fine proportions and configuration of drawers with good copper metalwork with a lift out panel on the left side for storage of books and a concealed cash drawer on the right side. Made from paulownia wood, this was made for the Kyoto area

Multi-purpose storage cabinet, custom made from fine quality zelkova (keyaki) wood: matched TAMAMOKU grain panels in the upper sliding doors. Fine urushi lacquer finish which just gets better with age. Bought 20 years ago and in a private collection until now. Unprocurable from the present Japanese market.
